POND SAVER IS CHANGING
The look and quality of Pond Saver is changing in the following ways.
· Change in carrier
· Longer shelf life
What is the Carrier?
The Carrier is the material used to carry the bacteria. Bacteria spores are made into a water slurry,
and spray dried onto a powder or granular material called the “carrier.” The carrier is what you see
when you look at the product. The old carrier was made of ground peanut shells. The new carrier
is called “cereal fines,” to which we added a few ingredients to improve the flowability and prevent
caking. The product is now a coarse powder with a light tan color.
Bacteria Count and Shelf Life
In order to increase the shelf life, we increased the bacteria count without changing the label spec.
So the label still says 1 Billion cfu/g, even though there are many more. This way, the product will
still contain at least 1 Billion cfu/g even after 3 years on the shelf. So in essence, we are not
claiming higher bacteria counts. If we did, we would not be able to increase the shelf life. The lower
count claimed on the label will still be true after 3 years, as long as we don’t claim the new higher
counts.
What about the Dose Rates?
The dose rates and label have not changed. You still use 3-Lbs per acre-foot of water. 1 Acre-foot
equals about 325,000 Gallons. Frequency of application also remains the same. In short, the
product works exactly the same way. It only looks different and lasts longer on the shelf.
Does the Product Behave the Same Way in Water?
The old peanut shell carrier would usually sink in the water. This new powdered material acts like
coffee creamer. It floats initially, then gradually sinks as it soaks up water. You can stir it in a little if
you like, but it is not necessary. The label still suggests that you mix Pond Saver in a bucket of
pond water, which is then poured out a little at a time all around the pond perimeter, in the shallow
water. This is a recommendation for quickest results, but is not absolutely necessary. Pond Saver
will still work even if placed directly into the pond.
What if the Fish Eat It?
As always, Pond Saver is completely nontoxic, and will not harm any wildlife, even if they eat it.
However, it won’t clean the water if the fish eat it all. That is why we recommend mixing it with
some pond water before pouring it in.
Can Pond Saver Be Used in a Reservoir for Drinking Water?
No. Pond Saver is a bacterial treatment. Drinking water standards do not allow high bacteria
counts. So you can’t use Pond Saver for drinking water reservoirs.
